Less sticking by Micropeening
Micropeening results in considerable lower adhesion due to the resulting smooth surface morphology.
Less siticking by Micropeening
Micropeening results in considerable lower adhesion due to the resulting smooth surface morphology.
In the picture it can be clearly seen that micropeening results in a nicely undulating surface.
Compared with a mechanically polished surface it is obvious that macroscopically the roughness seems greater: the Ra value is higher. But microscopically the roughness is comparable with the polished surface, which in the end determines the degree of adhesion.
In comparison with a ground surface we observe a similar Ra value, but the micro roughness of the ground surface is much greater than for the nice undulating surface of the micropeened material, with as a result severe adhesion.
