Shot peening
While shot peening the substrate is bombarded at an angle of 90 degrees with shot (steel, stainless steel, etc) in order to condense the surface. Any porosity will vanish and the surface will get harder, while a compressive stress is built up. This compressive stress will make the material less sensitive to fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and corrosion fatigue.
do you know that:
* Shot peening in the space- and aircraft-industry since a long time daily is applicated.
* Shot peening the life-expandency of the material expands without weight increase.
* Shot peening in the space- and aircraft-industry herewith even take part in the strenghtcalculations.
* Shot peening decreases corrosion caused by surface treatments as grinding, welding, milling, metalising, blasting, anodising, galvising, etc.
* Shot peening also increases resistance against hydrogen-embrittlement and stress cracking corrosion (intergranulair or transgranulair).
Did you also know that:
* CTB HOlland BV is shotpeening since the late 70's on location and in our own shop.
* CTB Holland BV is doing research for a long time with various Universities (espacially TU Delft) for the effects off shot peening.
* CTB Holland BV was promotor of many research programms to many Industries and Dutch Gouverment ad TNO.
* CTB Holland BV has the diposition over special control and measuring equipment.
* CTB Holland BV record all the critical parameters in a database for futhere. treatments.
Some critical parameters during the shot peening process:
* angle off the nozzle.
* distance to the surface.
* shot material.
* shot size.
* shot hardness.
* shot peening time.
* shot velocity
The shot may be hardened and has a rounded off shape.
A special form of shotpeening is the Micropeen®treatment.
