TSA
Thermal Spraying Aluminium
TSA is a special type of thermally sprayed layers. The TSA layer is sprayed on a steel surface which has been blasted before. The molten aluminium is obtained by an electric arc or autogenous.
The TSA layer is porous and protects the steel substrate in two ways:
By cathodic protection and by the formation of an true barrier layer after the pores have been filled with corrosion products. When applied in water also a calcined layer may provide further protection.
Description
For a detailed description of the TSA layers we refer to:
Techn-infopage nr TI.05.25 of september 2005 FME/CWM.
TSA layers are often applied to prevent corrosion under isolation, both for carbonsteel and stainless steel. (CINI 7.4.04 rep CINI 7.4.07). (CINI: Foundation commission isolation Dutch Industry)
We also refer to a spec in use for ExxonMobil: Spec: TSA RO7 of January 3 2007. We do have experience with TSA layers applied according to this spec.
