Micropeening®

Micropeening®Micropeening®Micropeening®

When micropeening® a surface, it is being hammered by pure round glass beads, under very precisely controlled process conditions. The complete surface is treated till saturation. Depending on chosen process conditions the resulting surface is cleaned, smoothened and hardened, while in a thin surface layer compressive stresses are built up. Adhesion of material to the metal surface is diminished, heat transfer is improved while the sensitivity to corrosion, especially stress corrosion cracking decreases considerably.

Description of the technique

A Micropeen-treatment® will only result in the desired good surface properties if the surface is treated to saturation. Therefore the grade of saturation must be measured during the treatment. We have coupled modern measuring equipment to a PC, where all measured data are added to our database. The saturation data are printed out for each treated surface and handed over to the customer.

A good Micropeen-treatment® provides a material surface with the following properties:

  • clean
  • under compressive stress
  • harder than the original material
  • more resistant against wear
  • more resistant against fouling
  • more resistant against general corrosion
  • more resistant against stress corrosion cracking
  • more resistant against corrosion-fatigue
  • more resistant against localised forms of corrosion like pitting and crevice corrosion

Put in different words: the Micropeen-treatment® saves costs.

The advanced equipment of CTB Holland BV is constructed in such a way that no negative impact on the environment can result.
